KING KONG'S 50th BIRTHDAY

Again, special thanks to ALFRED FLOREZ for these snapshots from 1983's KING KONG 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION in Hollywood. On pages 129-130 of IT CAME FROM BOB'S BASEMENT you'll see a series of photos depicting the construction of this giant Kong bust (duplicating the prop as built for the 1933 film) for display. The shots above show the incredible Kong as it looked in the east forecourt of Mann's (Graumann's) Chinese Theater, exactly where it stood for the 1933 premiere. This replica was so effective that several news organizations misidentified it as the original prop.
